The Black Cat Galway Floralesque 1

The Black Cat restaurant is one that we have passed many times whilst driving through Salthill and each time we always said that we must go and eat there but just didn’t get around to it! Well for Valentine’s Day my boyfriend surprised me and treated me to dinner in the Black Cat. I was delighted and we actually had such a good time that I have already been back since and took my sister and her boyfriend – that’s certainly the sign of somewhere great; when you take your family back there!!

The Black Cat is a Wine, Tapas & Jazz restaurant and the food is just delicious. When you enter the intimate restaurant it is like stepping into another world – where elegance, good food and quality service reign supreme. We were warmly welcomed  when we arrived and swiftly shown to our seats. I like when a restaurant has planned their tables well and even though we arrived early our table was still ready.

On both occasions that we were there we went with the Tapas menu and the food  is just SO tasty and flavoursome. There is an amazing menu to choose from with so many different options. My favourites were certainly the grilled halloumi and the sautéed baby potatoes. Both might sound like such simple dishes but both had so much herbs and flavours infused into the food that it just melted in the mouth. For the meat eaters – the slow roast beef cheeks were apparently amazing as were the Castlemine farm spring lamb cutlets!

The staff really help make your visit special. They are knoweledge without fault with regards the menu and I would highly advise asking them for help with the number of tapas to order and also which wines work with the dishes/combination of dishes. We ordered too much food the first time as I think we just wanted to try it all! We both ordered 3 tapas each and then the croistini to share – this was far too much food and we ended up not finishing quite a bit of it. Two tapas each plus one to share would have been much better… especially since we also just had to try the desserts (which by the way do not disappoint).

If you live in Galway or are just visiting I highly recommend going into the Black Cat to enjoy good food in a relaxed atmosphere. I would say that the restaurant is more suited to a seating to up to four as it is quite intimate and it just doesn’t feel like somewhere where you could have a loud drinking party of 15! I know that we will bring more people to the Black Cat in the future as both times to date we have left full of delicious tasty food and smiles on our faces.
