Stranger Things, 80's Nostaglia goldIn 1983 in a small town called Hawkins in Indiana something strange is going on and when a boy goes missing the events that unfold are an eerie ode to the 80’s that will fill you with nostalgia for the likes of the Goonies, ET and Twin Peaks.

The series is just Netflix gold and it’s not hard to see why it is the hit of the summer. The horror sci-fi series does nostalgia right with a great cast that really takes you back to a time where kids rode their bikes at night and used walkie talkies. And can we also mention the use of compasses – so funny to see in our own age of Google Maps. Keep an eye out as well for the references to E.T. and other 80’s shows – that was half the fun when we were watching it 🙂

Winona Ryder is not an actress that I had thought about in a while but wow she is great in this. I had forgotten how good an actress that she is and she is certainly back to her good old days. They casted the child actors extraordinarily well – and they certainly have fantastic careers ahead of them. Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and Natalia Dyer are all excellent but Millie Brown who plays Eleven is in a league of her own.

I have been glued to it since I watched the first five minutes of the first episode and already counting down to the next series. And from seeing reactions online I am certainly not the only one!

So if you binge watch one thing this Summer – certainly make the eerie, retro Stranger Things it;

  1. It is definitely the best series I have watched in so long. I can’t wait for series two but trying not to think about it. I love Winona Ryder as she always plays someone different and quirky so I was really attracted to it when I saw her name, and she didn’t disappoint! The kids were amazing too, especially 11!

    Great review!

    • I was so surprised when I seen Winona and had completely forgotten how good an actress that she is! They did such an amazing job with the casting of the children as well – they can act better than some adult actors! 🙂 And thanks for your kind words – it’s so hard to write a review without giving much away 🙂 Roll on Season 2!! x
