Galway where to eat ard bia nimmos floralesque

Galway is well known for it’s amazing food and delicious treats so today I thought I would share some of my favourite places to eat right from Breakfast through to Dinner! It may give you some new places to try out of if visiting a guide to where to get your nibbles on! These are just a snippet of what is on offer in Galway and I have only included places that I have been to.

BREAKFAST

Nimmos (Ard Bia)

The very first recommendation has to be Nimmos otherwise known as Ard Bia. They serve the most amazing, fresh, handmade foods and the MOST amazing breakfast options. I love their pancakes with mixed berries, honey and  mascarpone. Maybe not the healthiest option on the menu but my go to. And a quick mention has to go to their cold pressed juices – they are yum – I even like the green one!! We love going on a Sunday morning for the great atmosphere, friendly staff and a weekly treat. Be warned you may have to queue after 10.30am on a Sunday morning. Website – here.

Busker Browns

There are two reasons for choosing Buskers (1) Good Food (2) Jazz. Their  food is delicious but if you are looking for some fun entertainment while you eat then they have a free Jazz session with the Galway Bay Jazz Band on Sunday mornings from 12.00-14.00pm. Even if you are feeling slightly hungover after a great Saturday night – I would still recommend popping in – they are fantastic and if you have friends visiting then it is something fun to do. Website – here.

LUNCH

Brasserie on the Corner

The food is always of super high quality whenever you go here. They do an amazing vegetarian board and a yum goats cheese salad. I have never had any issues here and would highly recommend. I have yet to try dinner there but it’s certainly on my to do list. Website – here.

Mc Donagh’s

Anyone who loves freshly cooked fish LOVES Mc Donaghs. Personally since I am vegetarian I have only ever had their chips – but they are delish. Never a bad word have I heard about this place and friends who no longer lives in Galway speaks so fondly of their memories eating there. Website – here.

The Pie Maker

The Pie Maker is great place to pop in for some quick food that is super filling. Their pies are just mouth watering and the staff are super friendly. My personal favourite pie is the Spinach and Feta – YUM  Website – here.

Galway where to eat glenlo abbey floralesque

AFTERNOON TEA

Glenlo Abbey

As you may have read here I attended afternoon tea with Retroflame last year – and honestly it was the best afternoon tea that I have ever gone to. The treats were delectable and we were so well attended to. I may have gone to an event so the tea was slightly different to a normal afternoon tea however friends of mine how have gone since have loved it just as much as I have. The grounds are also just beautiful and this 5 Star hotel really does deserve each and every star! Website – here.

G Hotel

The G Hotel is also another great hotel that does a great afternoon tea. I tasted quite a few of their treats when I attended this event and they were really, really good. How amazing does this sound; “Tantalise your taste buds with hand crafted pastries, freshly baked scones with preserves, delicious savoury bites and tempting sweet treats”. Website – here.

DINNER

Mc Swiggans

My friends and I always agree when we talk about ‘Swiggs – good honest food that is cooked well. The restaurant will not be serving the latest trends in molecular gastronomy but what it will serve you in good food cooked really well. This may not sound exciting to some – but it is always a go to when you want to go somewhere where everyone in the group will find something to their taste and where there will eb no complaints just full tummies. Website – here.

Kirwans Lane

If you would like to treat yourself then I would certainly say to try eating at Kirwans Lane. The food is of a very high standard and they have a great wine listing. They are known for their fish so their menu is very fish orientated.Website – here.

The Cellar Bar

If you are looking for just some good pub grub with a good atmosphere – then the Cellar bar could be the option. The food is good, and they also do a fantastic strawberry daiquiri 🙂 I love their vegetarian burger and they are really great when you want to add and take things off your burger. Some of my friends also rave about their chicken wings. Website – here.

PIZZA

Monroes

If pizza is your thing then Galway has some amazing options and my favourite pizza of all has to be Monroes pizza. The actual pizza place is actually to the side of Monroe’s pub and you can order the pizza either to take away or to eat at the bar!! This is really great if you are watching a match or just hanging out with friends – and their pizza really is the best. Website – here.

Other restaurants to note would be;

  • Artisan – for as my boyfriend puts it – the best steak of his life ** Sadly, Artisan has since closed.
  • Il Folletto – Italian restaurant
  • An Cupan Tae – great for an afternoon chat
  • The Dough Bros – for wood fired pizza

All of the above I have tried but these ones are on my hit list for 2016 and I can’t wait; Tribeton56 Central &  Aniar.

Trying out new restaurants is one of my favourite things to do (even if on occasion I can be fussy)! Hopefully this has been helpful and perhaps if you are a local given you somewhere new to try out.
