There are some pieces which are timeless classics when it comes to clothing and a crisp white shirt is one such piece. I love that they can be styled so many different ways, and when Casey from Red Tulip Boutique contacted me with the offer to guest post to share 5 ways that she would style this classic, I thought that it was a great fit!

I just love the white button-down shirt. It’s such a classic, and yet so versatile. If you’ve got one (or more) of these great basic pieces in your wardrobe, you can create all sorts of looks and combinations for every occasion — from work and business to casual weekend dates.

As a general rule, I think that these shirts look best when unbuttoned down to the bust line. It gives the look shape, flair and style. You can make the most of the resulting V to draw attention to a chic necklace, pop a cute singlet underneath for a layered effect, or even show off a hint of a sexy lace bra for your special dinner date.

1. High-Waist Skirt

For comfort and elegance at work, try pairing that white button-down shirt with a high-waisted skirt. The skirt can be long and flowing, mid-length and fitted, or even with a flirty slit. Experiment with thin and wide belts for an individual twist to this functional look, and slip on some low heels or fashionable flats for all-day comfort.

2. Tweed Blazer

Here’s a blast from the past that’s coming back into style — and I sure am loving it! Tuck a silk button-down into a pair of slim trousers and complete the outfit with a tweed blazer and stiletto heels. This fun combination has so many great textures going on, and the heels make it super stylish. Everyone at work will be sure to know you’re a dynamo woman who’s got it figured out!

3. Florals

Ready to wave goodbye to the office and head out for a romantic dinner? Add some flair with a floral midi skirt. Jewellery and heels are the perfect way to finish off this playful look, and you’re ready to enjoy the night of your life.

4. Flirty Mini

This is one of my personal favourites for everything from work to late-night drinks. Pick out a cute black mini skirt with a nice bit of shape and style, and tuck in your button-down shirt for a look that you can wear all day. High heels in white or black look spectacularly stylish with this multi-purpose outfit.

5. Dressed up Denim

The ideal way to mix up your white button-down shirt for a cool and casual look when you’re ready to chill is to rock it with some denim. It can be denim jeans or skinny jeans, some cute denim shorts, or even a pair of overalls. The best part about pairing denim with a shirt is that you can make it as stylish or chill as you like — it’s all in the accessories and the shoes. Add a bandana and boots for a country twist, or dress up your look with an eye-catching necklace and sandals. Sneakers go well with this combo as well, so rest assured that you can style your white button-down shirt in comfort all weekend long.

There’s never been a better time to mix up your look and style your white button-down in your way. With such a range of looks, you really can rock this classic piece of apparel for any occasion!
