A few weeks ago I had the delight of heading to a Magical, Winter Wonderland in Sligo. Feehilys Florist in Carraroe, Sligo invited me along to their Christmas Flower Demonstration with floral master Joan Stam. I wanted to share all about it today as if you are stuck for a gift for someone or looking for some beautiful flowers – then you should pop out to their store. They have amazing floral arrangements as well as other gifts, and it really is like a beautiful Winter Wonderland in stores.
Feehily’s Florist has always been my go to for buying flowers in Sligo. I find their website so handy to use and order flowers for my mum for Mother’s Day, birthdays and other occasions. What I love about them is that their work is beautiful. Every time that I have ordered, the person receiving the flowers (and sometimes balloons!), love the displays. They are also super reliable – I say this as I have used other florists and they have missed deliveries but that has never happened with Feehilys.
They have actually been around for many years in Sligo – over 30 years to be exact. They are also the largest retail florist in the NorthWest of Ireland and you can read more about them here. I was well aware of their floral store on Bridge Street but I was not aware of their Carraroe showroom. And the new showroom is stunning. They have the perfect two-floor space that in Winter is just somewhere you could spend hours in – there are flowers and displays everywhere and it is simply beautiful. They even have falling snow and a postbox for children to post their letters to Santa!
As much as my blog name is ‘Floral’esque, I am not one with flowers 🙂 I was so intrigued when I was invited about what it would be like. But I knew since Feehilys were arranging I would not be disappointed. And it turned out to be such a fun night.
The demonstration that I went to was with the very talented Joan Stam. For those who are not familiar, Joan is originally from the Netherlands and is an internationally recognised Floral Designer or flower binder. He travels all over the world doing demonstrations, floral arranging and teaching. And has also co-founded BloomTube. It was quite the honour to see him work.
The demonstration showed us many different Christmas inspired arrangements. It was fascinating to see exactly how he build up each piece and what he included. Some of the flowers and accessories that he included I would not have thought of. There were also ones where he hung the different flowers upside down and yet still it worked. He clearly has the way with flowers and can see the end result before he begins. All the flowers and accessories that he used were also available to buy in store – a great touch. The colours that he combined were just beautiful and I think we all wanted to win one of the pieces at the end.
What was also fantastic was the banter between Joan and Michael Feehily. They were simply hilarious and have clearly been working with each other for years. It added a lighter note to the evening and just added that extra fun atmosphere to the night. Michael also clearly knows his flowers. I found it so inspiring to see their passion and enthusiasm for the flower arranging.
Certainly pop on over to their website and you can find details of workshops, classes but you can also order flowers online! This is such a good option and I find their website so easy to use as well. Feehily’s Florist is also on Facebook and they have a stunning Instagram. Certainly, if you need a last minute gift or beautiful flowers for Christmas – this is the place to go. And if you see another demonstration being advertised with them – book tickets fast!! 🙂
I also want to say a massive thank you to Michael and the entire team for having us there at such a creative event. We really enjoyed it and I think we also plan on trying our hands at flower arranging in the New Year!
And I will leave you with their magical Christmas video;
