Joanne Hynes is one of Ireland’s most well-known Irish Designers and news of a capsule collection with high street giant Dunnes Stores has rightly made many of us sit up. Dunnes Stores do have a history of collaborating with some amazing Irish Designers such as Paul Costello, Carolyn Donnelly and Lennon Courtney but I didn’t know what style that this capsule collection would take. It turns out, by the way, a pretty amazing one.
Sometimes I find that when a designer collaborates with a high street store that the collection can lose some of the designer’s key signatures. With Joanne’s pieces, I love the use of perspex, bright colour and overall vibrancy of her collections. And I am delighted to say that they have managed to keep the ‘Bring on Winter‘ collection true to her.
The collection is bright, bold, vibrant and embellished. It really is everything that you could hope for with a collaboration with Joanne. The edge that she brings to the pieces is just fab and I am in love with so many of the perspex adorned pieces. She also uses more unusual fabrics like neoprene and the bold shapes of many of the pieces are eye-catching. And a note has to be made to her collars – I am simply raging that I did not pick one up as they sold out – but they are one of the stand outs for me of the collection. They would add such a beautiful statement to almost any outfit.
I love finding pieces that stand out but are also wearable in real life. The pieces feel high end though many of the price points are not. She has managed to do what is quite hard to do – make the affordable seem aspirational. There are certainly a fewer higher priced items like the stunning shearling coat below priced at €900, but overall I think that if you are lucky enough to get something before this sells out (and I have no doubt that it will), then you will be pleasantly surprised by most prices.
The capsule collection is large at 100 beautiful pieces and will be stocked on Dunnes Stores online, as well in select stores like Grafton Street, Stephen’s Green, Liffey Valley and Eyre Square to name but a few. I think that this is one that will sell out very fast, and even online some pieces are already sold out!
I would certainly advise you to check out Joanne’s own website to learn more about her work and also follow along behind the scenes on her Instagram. She is also on Twitter and Facebook. Will you be picking up anything from her collection?
