I love when a person translates their passion into a business – passion is the core to most successful business and the ones that I try to support where I can. Take Lanidor for example, proprietor Caroline McCarthy fell in love with the brand and then when she came back to Ireland and couldn’t find the brand she decided to launch it here.
That passion for the brand is one of the reasons that I think the store will do very well in Galway and why I think it will become a go-to retailer for both Galwegians and visitors alike.
When I was invited to the launch and checked out the brand in more detail, I was excited. The quality looked high and the price points were also reasonable. It was not a brand that I was familiar with and since I love to explore new brands I was looking forward to seeing what they had to offer in person.
When I arrived in store I was shocked at how far back the store actually went! The people who had the rental space before were in a different industry and I never thought that the space could look how Caroline has curated it. When you walk in it is airy and the colour palette along with the natural wooden aspects to the store make it very welcoming to go into.
The brand itself is from Portugal and since it was founded in 1966 it has grown to over 100 stores worldwide, Lanidor is Portugal’s leading brand in ladies’ fashion and has energised the ready-to-wear market. When Caroline was on holiday in Portugal, she found a floral dress that she loved, but she says that; “Upon my return to Ireland, I was disappointed to discover that the brand was not available to purchase here. However, this disappointment turned to nervous excitement as I began to consider the possibility of opening a store in Galway. The quality and freshness of the Lanidor range convinced me I was making the right decision, and I felt compelled to share this fantastic brand with Irish ladies”.
Their Autumn Winter selection is fantastic and they have a great mix of colours, styles and price points as well. This black jacket below is something that I simply fell in love with – and would easily make a wardrobe staple for many years to come.
A special mention has to go to the band Four Men & A Bass who were fantastic and really set the tone for the Garden Party launch, they combined with O’Reillys Bar & Kitchen who provided simply yummy food and delicious Prosecco, really made the evening.
If you are in Galway I would highly recommend that you pop into Lanidor – they are located on Eyre Street, Galway and the open today so perfect for some weekend shopping. They are also online (and hats off to Caroline for opening a store and online at the same time!), and on Facebook and Instagram as well.
