My Morning Skincare Routine

Since the cold weather has kicked in I have tried to up my skincare game and stick to an actual routine. I am normally someone who sticks to a routine most of the time… but for the past two weeks I have stuck to it all of the time and wanted to share those products with you today.

So for starters, I have combination skin – an oily t-zone but sometimes dry on my cheeks and on occasion can be a little sensitive. When I was in my twenties I just used anything that was gentle and not going to irritate my skin. Now that I am in my thirties I want active ingredients and products that will work on my skin. There are very few products that I am loyal to and love to try new products as well. But for the past two weeks, these have been what I have been using.

I only do a single cleanse in the morning (I double cleanse at night – an oil cleanser (normally the Absolute Cleansing Face Oil by Kinvara True Skincare) followed by a blam or cream cleanser), and I am going between the Elemis Biotec skin energising cleanser and cult favourite Liz Earle’s cleanse and polish. I like a soft wakeup in the morning and both of these are lovely to use and don’t feel harsh on my skin. Also, the Elemis cleanser I swear never seems to get empty though I use it every other day!

I also use Cleanse off mitt when taking off my cleanser as I feel that it adds a little something to my cleanse. I never use the mitt just with water as I don’t get that clean feeling (maybe since I like to double cleanse), but would not be without in my routine.

I am currently using the Phyt’s Bitter Orange Leaf Toner (Hydrole Oranger) and love it. The smell is one I look forward to in the morning and since this is alcohol-free it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. It says that it hydrates and re-balances the skin’s pH but to me it just makes my skin feel hydrated and that all of my cleanser is gone. This is also the first time I have used toner every time and it is worth the extra step.

Also, it comes in a glass bottle and just feels like a mini-step of luxury. I am also going to have a beauty gift guide coming up and there is a fab gift set that Phyt’s have for Christmas that would be perfect for those who love natural skincare and want a treat.

Serums / Oils

I used to use quite the concoction on my skin with a mix of many different serums and oils but have pulled right back to the basics now.

  • Pestle & Mortar hyaluronic serum – this is the first that I put on and find that it really works and aids hydration. It is one of the very few products that I always have a backup of. I could not do without this and really have found in this weather that it has been a skin saver.
  • Elemis Superfood Facial Oil – this is a new edition and one that certainly deserves the mention. A little goes way with the product which is good as it is slightly pricer but well worth it. After my hyaluronic serum, this oil just soaks beautifully into my skin and I actually quite enjoy using it.
  • Another mention is the Waxperts Wonder Pads. If I am suffering any type of breakout or texture on my skin, I will rub one of these on my skin and it really does wonders to help clear up my skin. Also, I prefer the old packaging to the new so always move my new pads into the old box!

Eye Cream

I was using the Clarin’s Eye Contour gel but have wanted to up my game slightly on my eye area and when I saw that Pestle & Mortar were releasing an eye cream I knew it was the one I wanted to try. It was my only purchase on Black Friday and was despatched very quickly and I have been using it since. So I am now using the Pestle & Mortar Recover eye cream and love how lightweight that this is. It is too early to give a full review, but so far my eye area is loving it.

Moisturizer & SPF

I am nearing the end of my Kinvara Skincare Active Rosehip Day Cream, and you can expect a full review of this soon. Normally in this weather, I use the Body Shop Vitamin E Intense Moisturizer but I had run out so have been trying the Kinvara one over the past few months and I really like it. it has a strong scent but I got used to that quickly and my skin really liked the consistency of this.

I am going between two at the moment and love both. I am using the Image Skincare Prevention Daily Ultimate Protection Moisturizer SPF 50 and the Phyt’s Fluide Protecteur SPF 50. You may remember me talking about the Phyt’s sunscreen before here – well I still love it and keep it in the office to reapply during the day.

As you can see I have stripped back my skincare routine but have made it work for me. I am conscious that I should be including an acid or Vitamin A of some sort but going to stay with this for the moment. Do you have any top skincare products that you use?
