Q & A with Irish Designer Joanne Hynes

Last week when I went to see the first capsule collection with Joanne Hynes, I was lucky enough to be invited to an intimate Q&A with the designer herself about her ‘Bring on Winter‘ collection with Dunnes Stores for Autumn Winter 2016. And today I wanted to share a snippet of this with you as Joanne is such an amazing designer and I loved her view on the collection.

Q & A with Irish Designer Joanne Hynes

When I first saw the Joanne Hynes collection on the rack so to speak I was blown away by the quality – it is like it is her own personal collection and not a collaboration with the high street giant. And Joanne also said something along the same theme when she was discussing the process of the collaboration. She wanted to have full autonomy over the collection and to be allowed to be herself within the collection. She was actually approached in 2009 by Dunnes Stores but the time wasn’t right, and now a few years later it seemed like a great time to start working togeather.

This is not the first time that Joanne has collaborated – she has previously worked with Pretty Polly in the past and learned a lot from that retail experience which she brought forward into this collection. She wanted the collaboration to be ladylike, with a bit of mischief incorporated. She wants to woman who wears it to feel polished and playful and I think she achieved that in this collaboration.

Joanne also spoke about her hunger for her work and that she knew the Dunnes Stores collaboration would be a success but had no idea just how successful it would be. There is great variety within the collection and you can wear it anywhere which perhaps was some of the appeal. She is always surprised with exactly what will sell out. For the collection wth Dunnes Stores she didn’t want to tell people how to wear it and let each person wear it as they envisioned it which I think is fantastic.

For the collection wth Dunnes Stores she didn’t want to tell people how to wear it and let each person wear it as they envisioned it which I think is fantastic. There are so many different ways to wear the pieces in the collection – you can both dress them up and also wear them more casually. Certainly, if you are looking for a well made, Irish Designed addition to your wardrobe then I think you should check out this collection – though I have a feeling that this will sell out.
