You may remember that I have shared my top picks of the Bamboo Wicker Bags before (here), well something that I have really noticed is the emergence of basket bags that actually do look like picnic baskets.
The trend is a little harder to carry off I believe, and not sure if it will be as long-lasting. The likes of theĀ Cult Gaia you will certainly be able to wear season after season, but I think that the new basket bags may be relegated to being a stylish picnic basket next year! However, I still quite like it.
However, saying that this is not the first time that these bags have been popular, I am sure that many of you may remember images of Jane Birkin wearing her own picnic style bag in the 1970’s and she, of course, made it look so stylish. There is a brand called Blooming Dreamer who have recreated the iconic basket bag – and I am in love with them (especially this one). It was actually their bags that made me fall in love with this trend.
The Blooming Dreamers bags are traditional Portuguese fishing baskets which are handcrafted using the locally sourced straw. What I love is that they are actually handmade in the Algarve by an older generation of artisans, each basket takes 3 days to make, and they work together with their weavers to ethically support their local economies. Amazing! I always prefer to support handmade items, rather than fast fashion and the price point on these is also very reasonable. And if you want ideas on how to style – check out how Lucy does here.
The Mango Basket Bag is probably my top pick for an affordable option that is still perfectly on trend. It is adorable and can be used again in future years as a picnic basket. There are much pricer options out there and I have given a selection below. What are your thoughts – are these a bag trend that you will be getting on board with?
