Art Event – Grand Opening for Into the West by Harrie McManus

  • Cost: Free
  • Details: This September, renowned Irish Artist Harrie McManus will be holding the first solo exhibition of her work since moving to Galway at the end of 2017. Inspired by her adopted city and its surroundings, the exhibition, entitled “Into The West”, will run for the month of September in the exhibition space of the Galway Designers Studio House in The Cornstore, Middle Street, with the official opening on Thursday 6th September (See events – GDSH). Born in Dublin a very, very long time ago, Harrie has thought generations of budding artists to draw and paint, first as the teacher in Sutton Park School and Holy Faith School, Killester, then as RTÉ Artist in Residence on Live 3 and P.M. Live for almost a decade. Her TV Appearances and Nationwide curses have given the most unlikely (and often unwilling) artist the courage and confidence to grab a brush and take to the canvas. Indeed, it was the encouragement from her pupils, many of whom she has been mentoring for decades, that prompted Harrie to pick up her pallet knife, rather than ease into her retirement. Harre is hoping her first exhibition in Galway will draw a new audience to her work – not to mention a new group of collectors — and prove it’s never too late to unleash your creativity.
