Music Event – 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music

  • Details: Back by popular demand, the Galway Music Residency presents the spring 2019 series of 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music. This unique set of concerts, curated by music mastermind Matthew Berrill, will feature the Galway ConTempo Quartet and some of Ireland’s best emerging and established musicians over three dates. 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music kicks off on Saturday 16th February with an eclectic programme of trad, folk, and classical music.
    Maria Ryan and Lucia McPartlin of contemporary Irish music ensemble Strung will start the morning off with a bang. Ryan and McPartlin’s dynamic ensemble experience and unique backgrounds allow them to subtly integrate complex harmonies and innovative motifs, while staying true to the deep-rooted authenticity of traditional Irish melodies. Strung’s sound radiates with originality, yets an understated energy that instantly captivates. Guitarist, songwriter and Galway native Niamh Regan will then take to the stage to perform a suite of original songs. Regan, who has been likened to UK singer Laura Marling, creates enthralling reflective pieces that are incredibly powerful. ConTempo Quartet will perform Swan Hennessy’s String Quartet no. 3 Troisième Quatuor à cordes to close the morning of music. This romantic work is true to Hennessy’s impressionist style coloured with Celtic leanings.

  • Details: One of the highlights of the Galway social scene, this year’s National Breast Cancer Research Institute’s Valentine’s Ball will take place on Saturday, February 16th in the stunning surroundings of the Galmont Hotel (formerly the Radisson Blu Hotel). Always a fun-packed night, the fundraiser will start in a glorious fashion with the Ignite Gospel Choir who will entertain guests as they arrive to a bubbles and canapés reception at 7.00pm. This will be followed by a five-course gala dinner with MC on the night, Ollie Turner from Galway Bay FM, keeping the evening’s events moving along while guests then dance the night away to The Jive Buddies. The annual Valentine’s Ball is one of the major fundraising events nationally for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute, based at the Lambe Institute for Translation Research, NUI Galway. All proceeds from the night will go towards funding the research team led by Prof. Michael Kerin at the Institute.

Exhibition Event – Maghera Pony Launch

  • Details: THE MAGHERA PONY – An early morning event to celebrate my first ever exhibition of prints and etchings completed during and artistic residency in the Burren College of Art in 2018. The event is also a pre-album launch for my new solo album also entitled THE MAGHERA PONY which was developed during the same residency. There will be delicious chai and baklava served and I will perform some of the new material from the album.

What's on in Galway This Week from 11th February 2019Charity Event – Fundraiser for the GSPCA “A walk with a four legged loved one”

  • Location – Merlin Park Woods, Doughiska, Galway

  • Cost: We will be there collecting with buckets on the day and every cent goes to the GSPCA. All we need is you, your Dog and a few euro 😉
  • Details: A fundraiser for the GSPCA. A 5k dog walk. Following on from February 14th I plan setting a side a special day to walk your four legged loved one on February Sunday the 17th. This event is open to all even if you don’t have a dog and would be a lovely family fun event, there will be plenty of dogs to see on the day and I am hopeful on the day the GSPCA will be able to bring a few dogs if anyone is thinking of adopting. Plan is to meet at the tennis Courts in Doughiska at 11.00am with a 12pm start.

Yoga Event – Awake Inside: blindfolded yoga

  • Location – Centre of Light, The Bridge Mills, O’Briens Bridge, Galway

  • Details:  Awake Inside: blindfolded yoga workshop will offer you a unique experience; it will allow you to look deeper inside and explore other of your senses, sense of sound, touch, smell, a sense of you within a space and moment, that is here and now. It’s an exploration of the world within. A bridge to trusting oneself, be confident and fearless. A blindfolded practice will remind you, that everything is already there, a sacred space lies within, just look inside, awake and blossom. The workshop will start with a check-in and practice of breathwork, to allow the mind and body to fully arrive at the practice. It will continue with the mindful and blindfolded practice of āsana. The workshop will finish with a deep relaxation of yoga nidra and an optional gentle head massage.

  • Details: Inner Space: breathwork, meditation + tea ceremony workshop is orientated towards opening up and growing into our intentions, and true desires by letting go of thought patterns that are keeping us back as well as releasing physical and emotional tension to grow and bloom.
    FEBRUARY 17 workshop marks also the Full Moon, so during this morning session we will cleanse, release and let go of what no longer positively serves us, fears and doubts. That will create freeing energy within and around us to set and let in new intentions for the season of Spring. Open up and blossom.
